I adhere to the Kincardine fishing canon and schedule:
Jigging everything but my wedding ring through a small hole in the harbour ice; slip weight rig for Whitefish and Browns; roe, worms and minnows under a float early in season, and ... later I may hit emerg after tossing Cleos steadily for a day or seven.
Many of us can do this with a minimal tool-box that allows us to swing to other species with good success.
Please, somebody explain to me what I can't accomplish with long, light-action rod, carrying the same line and terminal rig as the floatster at my side using specialized tackle that can exceed the cost of a small used boat and motor.
